Elgin, IL, February 18, 2015 – Elgin Sweeper, a division of Federal Signal Corporation and the leading manufacturer of street sweepers for general street maintenance, special industrial and airport applications, is entering its second year of sponsorship as an official partner with NASCAR Green, maintaining its position as the Official Sweeper of NASCAR Green.
Elgin Sweeper provides unique solutions for racetrack sweeping, conditioning and maintenance throughout the racing season. This year, Elgin Sweeper will continue to be present at each NASCAR race event weekend to support NASCAR's Air Titan™ equipment to dry rain-soaked racetracks, saving jet fuel and reducing NASCAR’s overall carbon footprint. In addition, the Elgin Crosswind® Specialty Track Sweeper and the Elgin Sweeper Company will help clean and dry the tracks during caution periods if necessary.
“Elgin Sweeper’s relationship with NASCAR is ideal for racing fans and our municipal and contractor customers,” said Mike Higgins, vice president and general manager of Elgin Sweeper Company. “We are proud of our ongoing partnership with NASCAR to help racing fans learn more about innovative green programs and energy solutions – and to help reduce the number of NASCAR races postponed or shortened due to wet weather conditions.”
Now in its seventh year, NASCAR Green is one of the most impactful green platforms in sports. More than 20 Official NASCAR Green Partners, including Elgin Sweeper, use the platform as a proving ground to validate their green technologies.
Elgin Sweeper dealer earns NASCAR’s Track Services Innovation Award
Elgin Sweeper’s involvement with NASCAR also extends to its dealer network. Jeff Miles, manager of the Kansas City, Kans., branch of Key Equipment & Supply Company, an Elgin Sweeper dealer, recently earned NASCAR’s Track Services Innovation Award. Miles, who operates the Elgin Crosswind Track Sweeper at NASCAR tracks throughout the year, received the award for cultivating and initiating unique solutions to complex problems related to track clean-up at the Kansas Speedway. A member of the Kansas Speedway Track Operations Team, Miles is also an instructor with the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
2014 Racing Season
During the 2014 racing season – the inaugural year of Elgin Sweeper’s NASCAR partnership – Elgin Sweeper’s Track Sweeper participated in 76 races of the National Series; more than 200 National Series practice sessions; and participated in track conditioning at more than 30 tracks for National Series events. The Elgin Track Sweeper, in combination with the Air Titan units, demonstrated outstanding track drying with moisture at 19 NSCS events last year, preserving the integrity of each of those races.
“Last year, the Elgin Track Sweeper went from job to job and made quick work of sweeping challenges that came up before, during and after races,” Higgins said. “We’re confident our Track Sweeper will continue to meet the rigorous demands of the racing environment in 2015 and beyond.”
Elgin Crosswind® Specialty Track Sweeper
The regenerative air Crosswind Specialty Track Sweeper adapts features from Elgin Sweeper’s highly successful Crosswind GRS (glycol recovery sweeper), a special-purpose sweeper used to vacuum liquid glycol from airport runways. This specialty sweeper includes unique features developed for racetrack sweeping, track drying and conditioning, such as a side air-blast nozzle, a reverse sweep system, a 20,000 CFM-rated blower and a hydraulically-driven side broom with plastic bristles.
In addition to sweeping the racetracks, the Elgin Sweeper Crosswind Specialty Track Sweeper can also quickly and efficiently remove standing water, rubber and debris in and around the pit area, which contributes to the overall safety of the racers, their crews and spectators. The sweeper’s powerful blower is ideally suited for locations such as grass on the inside field, pit areas and weepers (cracks on a racetrack where water seeps through).
